As online crime becomes more of an issue, we have beefed up the security levels around our customer portal my.uber.co.nz. This is because the portal links you to secure sites where you load your credit or debit card information, so it’s important for your online protection.
Problems logging in to my.uber.co.nz?
The most recent security update we’ve done means that if you have Internet Explorer version 8, 9 or 10 as your browser (how you search the internet / access websites) you can no longer access my.uber.co.nz. Internet Explorer version 11 – the ‘final’ version of Internet Explorer – IS compatible with my.uber.co.nz for now, but we expect that over time we’ll have to add more security features that it won’t be able to handle.
So if you’ve tried to log into your customer portal my.uber.co.nz recently and found that you can’t, it doesn’t mean the portal is ‘broken’ or something is wrong with your broadband connection. What it most likely means is that you are using Internet Explorer and the version you have is out of date. To check which version of Internet Explorer you have, simply click the ‘About’ button in the menu bar.
A word or two on Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is a Microsoft product which has largely been superseded by Microsoft’s newer browser, ‘Edge’. If you have upgraded to Windows 10 or bought a new Windows computer in the past 2-3 years, it’s likely you’ll have Edge as your browser– in which case you’ll have no problems.
Updates to Internet Explorer came bundled with Windows Updates, so if you have ignored Microsoft prompts to update your computer system because you were frustrated by the time it would take or worried about using too much data, you won’t have got the Internet Explorer updates either. And sadly, it won’t only be my.uber.co.nz that doesn’t work with your older version of Internet Explorer – there will be an increasing number of things you can’t do online because other websites need to upgrade their security too.
Alternatives to Internet Explorer
There are other browsers that are not tied to the Microsoft computer operating system. These include Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Because they are standalone products, they generally update themselves automatically (unless you’ve ticked a box to make sure they don’t, but why would you?). As such, they automatically pick up the ability to deal with higher security measures.
To get yourself back onto my.uber.co.nz you’ll need (as a minimum) to upgrade to Internet Explorer version 11. You can do this without upgrading Windows if you’re on Windows 7. Much better, install Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or an alternative browser. Better still – do your Windows updates as they contain a number of security measures that are very important for your PC.
Do I have to?
If you don’t wish to upgrade Internet Explorer or try another browser, there is no Plan B! You’ll have increasing issues with things you want to do online, and you won’t be able to use my.uber.co.nz, so for your own security and protection we strongly recommend that you upgrade.
And if your PC has been around for a looooong time and struggles to handle Windows upgrades, is it time to think about spoiling yourself and getting a new one? That way you’ll get the best out of your broadband connection too 🙂
